Estimate masonry units, mortar bags, and full pallets for brick, concrete block, or CMU walls.
Enter the wall and unit dimensions
Measure equal wall sections together and subtract the combined area of doors, windows, and other openings.
Project check
Modular dimensions control the count
The unit face plus mortar joint creates a module that may differ from the brick or block's nominal name. Bond pattern, corners, returns, sills, lintels, bond beams, cuts, and special shapes can change both units and mortar.
Use actual unit dimensions and the specified joint thickness.
Subtract only openings represented in the wall measurement.
Count special units, reinforcement, grout, flashing, ties, and accessories separately.
Formula
Brick and block quantity formula
module = (unit length + joint) × (unit height + joint) units = waste-adjusted wall area ÷ module area
Including the mortar joint in the module prevents the calculator from treating every course as tightly stacked units.
Plan the assembly
Confirm the product and wall design
Verify actual unit size, mortar coverage, pallet quantity, bond, reinforcement, flashing, drainage, and structural requirements with the plans, supplier, and local authority. This is a material estimate, not a wall design.
