Baseboard linear-foot formula
perimeter = 2 × (room length + room width)pieces = (perimeter − openings) × allowance ÷ stock lengthThe final count rounds up to a whole piece of molding or baseboard.
Estimate linear footage and stock pieces for baseboard, molding, chair rail, or other continuous room trim.
Group equal rectangular rooms together and subtract doorways or other sections that will not receive trim.
The linear-foot total does not know where scarf joints, coped corners, returns, long uninterrupted walls, or defect cuts will occur. A room-by-room cut list can require more stock than the aggregate length suggests.

Mitered corners, coped joints, scarf joints, grain or pattern matching, damaged ends, and minimum usable offcuts affect the real order. Use a larger allowance for rooms with many short returns.
